Natural light is more energizing!

Updated: 6 days ago

Has anyone else noticed feeling more tired, flat or foggy after spending loads of time under LED lighting and screens all day?

Then you get outside into proper daylight and suddenly feel a bit more awake and human again?

I’ve been reading some interesting research around how certain types of light may affect our mitochondria (our cellular energy systems), circadian rhythm, mood and overall energy levels.

Makes me wonder whether modern life has pulled us a bit too far away from natural light.

You especially notice it in winter don’t you? Dark mornings. Dark afternoons. Artificial lighting all day.Less energy.Less motivation.

Then summer comes around and people naturally seem happier, lighter and more energised.

Maybe part of that is simply because we’re designed to be outside more than we are.

So while we’ve actually got some sunshine in the UK maybe it’s worth making the most of it:

  • Morning daylight

  • Walks outside

  • Lunch breaks in the sun

  • Less time under artificial lighting where possible

Not saying LEDs are “bad” by the way just interesting to think about how much light affects the nervous system, sleep, mood and energy. Making time to get the sun on your face is really beneficial.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts
