Overthinking, Perfection & Why You’re Not Moving

I’ll be honest… I do this myself and have for a long time.

Overthink things. Tweak them. Wait a bit longer.

I spent 4 years making ONE track FFS!

Tell myself it’s “not quite ready yet”.

And I see it all the time with other people too.

People say they’re stuck.

But most of the time… they’re not stuck.

They’re just thinking instead of doing.

What’s Actually Going On

Overthinking isn’t the problem. It’s what’s underneath it.

It’s usually a FEAR, something like:

  • “What if people judge this?”

  • “What if it’s not good enough?”

  • “What if I get it wrong?”

So your brain does what it thinks is helpful… It slows you down. Keeps you safe. Keeps you in:

Learning mode. Planning mode. Tweaking mode.

Which feels productive… but nothing actually moves forward.

The Bit That Needs To Land

You don’t build confidence by getting it perfect first.

You build confidence by doing the thing.

Then doing it again.

Then again.

That’s it.

The Pattern Most People Are In

It’s basically: Learn → tweak → wait → doubt → repeat

No one sees anything.

You don’t get feedback.

And you stay in your own head.

What Sits Under Perfection

When we strip this back in sessions, it nearly always comes down to:

“If this isn’t right… something bad will happen” And that “something” is usually fear of: judgement, rejection, feeling exposed. So perfection becomes your safety net. But it also becomes the thing that keeps you stuck.

A Simple Shift

Instead of asking: “Is this good enough?”

Try asking: “What am I actually worried will happen if I put this out?”

Be honest with it. That’s where the real work is.

Then… Move Anyway

This is the bit most people avoid.

Before you overthink it again:

Send it.

Post it.

Share it.

Even if it’s not perfect.

Especially if it’s not perfect.

A Better Way To Look At It

Try this instead:

“I’ll put it out… and make it better next time”

That’s how things actually grow.

Not by sitting on them.

Wanna Get Unstuck?

You’re not stuck. You’re just trying to protect yourself.

Which is understandable…but it’s also keeping you exactly where you are.

If you can get comfortable being seen before it’s perfect…everything starts to shift.

If this hits home. If you feel stuck and know it’s time to make a change…maybe we should have a chat. No pressure, just a conversation to see what’s really going on underneath it all.

Reach out / get in touch and we’ll take it from there.
